Steve Finkernagel WILKES VOLLEYBALL DEALT 3-2 FREEDOM LOSS AT KING'S 9/28/2011 9:28:00 PM (Box Score) WILKES VOLLEYBALL DEALT 3-2 FREEDOM LOSS AT KING'S WILKES-BARRE – After taking the first two sets, visiting Wilkes University dropped the final three games including the deciding fifth frame to host King's College in a 3-2 Freedom Conference loss Wednesday night at the Scandlon Gymnasium. With the loss Wilkes falls to 1-12 overall and 0-3 in conference play. King's improves to 3-10 overall and 1-2 in Freedom matches. Wilkes jumped out to an early 2-0 lead taking the first two sets by scores of 25-23 and 25-20. King's then answered capturing the third and fourth sets by scores of 23-25 and 25-27. The Lady Monarchs sealed the conference win with a thrilling 14-16 victory in the deciding fifth set. Emily DeBuck (Pine Island, NY/Warwick Valley) led the way for Wilkes with 19 kills and nine digs. Casey Bohan (Harding/Wyoming Area) followed with 17 kills and four block assists. Erin Nothstein (Mertztown/Brandywine Heights) posted a team-high 48 digs, breaking the school's single match record of 35 previously held by Allie Kelleher (Sayre/Athens Area) in 2009. Kate McGurk (Swarthmore/Ridley) led the passing game with 31 assists. Heather Bowman led the King's attack with 19 kills and 18 digs. Jillian Foster recorded a team-best 29 digs, while Kaleigh Brady finished with 28 assists. Wilkes will return to action Saturday when the Lady Colonels travel to Doylestown, Pa. for a cross-over quad match at Delaware Valley College. Wilkes will face Commonwealth Conference foes Albright College and Alvernia University at 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. respectively. Print Friendly Version
