WILKES VOLLEYBALL DROPS TWO ON FINAL DAY OF MORAVIAN INVITATIONAL
BETHLEHEM, PA – The Wilkes University volleyball team dropped a pair of matches Saturday afternoon on the final day of the 9th Annual Greyhound Premiere Invitational held at Moravian College. Wilkes fell in five sets 3-2 against Alvernia University in their first match of the day, before dropping a 3-0 decision against Ursinus College in the nightcap.
With the conclusion of the two-day tournament, Wilkes sees its overall mark move to 1-3.
After taking the first set against Alvernia 25-23, Wilkes dropped the second 24-26 before taking a 2-1 set lead after winning the third 25-19. Alvernia would rally to win the final two sets (16-25 and 8-15) to capture the five set victory. Paige Trusty (Durham, CT/Coginchaug) led the way offensively with 11 kills and 11 digs. Erin Nothstein (Mertztown/Brandywine Heights) added a team-best 27 digs, while Kate McGurk (Swarthmore/Ridley) anchored the passing game with 25 assists and three kills. Emily DeBuck (Pine Island, NY/Warwick Valley) posted seven kills and 17 digs.
In their final match of the tournament, Wilkes would fall in straight sets to Ursinus by scores of 16-25, 19-25, and 13-25. Nothstein finished with 14 digs, while DeBuck added five assists and 12 digs. Trusty notched four kills and seven digs, and Vicki Yakobosky (Auburn/Nativity BVM) totaled 10 digs.
Wilkes will return to the court Wednesday when they travel to Cabrini College for a non-league match at 7:30 p.m.
