WILKES FIELD HOCKEY EARNS 1-0 SHUTOUT WIN AGAINST ARCADIA
EDWARDSVILLE – Ashley Ream (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) scored the only goal of the contest to propel Wilkes University to a 1-0 shutout victory over Arcadia University in the consolation game of the Colonel Classic on Sunday afternoon.
With the win Wilkes goes to 1-1 on the season. Arcadia drops to 0-3 on the year.
The teams battled to a scoreless first half thanks to fine goalie play by both teams.
In the second, Wilkes game-winning goal came off a penalty corner at 55:39 where the initial shot went off of Aliya Frankel (Ventnor, NJ/Holy Spirit)'s stick to an open Ream. The sophomore then put it home past Knights keeper Sarah Baumgardner to seal the Lady Colonel victory.
Arcadia was awarded several penalty corners late in the contest, but the Wilkes' defense was up to the task stopping all Knight offensive opportunities to escape with the win.
Wilkes goalie Lindsey Davenport (Dallas, PA/Dallas) was stellar in net finishing with 12 saves to record the shutout. Baumgardner made seven stops in the loss.
Wilkes will be idle until Saturday when they travel to Salisbury, Maryland to face Juniata College at 4:30 p.m. in the Salisbury College Invitational.
