WILKES MEN'S BASKETBALL REMAINS PERFECT IN FREEDOM PLAY WITH 68-62 WIN AT MANHATTANVILLE

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Kendall Hinze (Lewisberry, PA/Red Land) scored a game-high 24 points as Wilkes University remained perfect in Freedom Conference play posting a 68-62 victory at Manhattanville College Saturday afternoon at Kennedy Gymnasium.

Wilkes moves to 11-3 overall and sits atop the Freedom Conference at 4-0. Manhattanville falls to 7-8 overall and 1-3 in league contests.

Wilkes took an early 13-6 lead following a Paul Huch (Tuckerton, NJ/Pinelands Regional) three-point play. The advantage grew to nine just two minutes later as Jourdon Wilson (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) canned a jumper followed by a deep Huch three-pointer putting the Colonels up 20-11. From there, Hinze flexed his muscle down low scoring two buckets and tossing in two free throws as Wilkes held a 30-23 lead late in the first half. Manhattanville used a late jumper to cut the deficit to six as Wilkes settled for a 35-29 lead at the break.

The Colonels used three quick scores to start the second frame to extend their advantage to 43-32 with 17:15 on the clock. Jeremy Hartman (Little Egg Harbor, NJ/Pinelands Regional) rang home a trey followed by a layup inside from Hinze and a Matt Mullins (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley)' three-pointer. Manhattanville kept the Colonels in striking distance using the foul line as a resource midway through the stanza as the Valiants hit the bonus with over 11 minutes left to play. After Manhattanville cut the lead to three, 60-57 with 1:37 left, Wilson came up big with a jumper and Huch and Cameron Hinkel (Millerstown, PA/Greenwood) went 4-for-4 from the charity stripe down the stretch as Wilkes held on for an important Freedom road victory.

Hinze was perfect from the floor hitting all seven of his shot attempts and went 10-for-12 from the foul line on way to his game-high 24 points. Wilson followed with 15 points on 6-for-15 shooting, while Huch joined Hinze and Wilson in double figures with 13 points and four rebounds. Wilkes continued to shoot the ball well from the field finishing 46.0 percent (23-50) and more importantly hit on 82.6 percent (19-23) of their free tosses including a 6-for-6 performance late to seal the win.

Ivan Jovicic led Manhattanville with 11 points including two three-pointers. Leading scorer Trevoy Pointer was held in check throughout finishing with 10 points on just 4-for-13 shooting throughout.

Wilkes will look to continue their perfect stretch in conference play when they travel to cross-town rival King's College (8-7, 3-1 Freedom) Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. at the Scandlon Gymnasium.
