Wilkes improves to 2-0 on the year while BBC drops to 1-2 following the defeat. BBC led early scoring on its first six possessions of the contest taking a 23-13 lead with 11:35 left in the first half. Wilkes responded with some stingy defense leading to transition buckets. Chris Shovlin (Kingston, PA/G.A.R.) started the rally with a deep three-pointer, followed by two Tyler Breznitsky (Freeland, PA/MMI Prep) free throws. A steal and score from Shovlin followed by another trey from the junior sharpshooter brought the Colonels all the way back tying the game at 25 with 8:20 left till the break. Five more Shovlin points and two Pat Furst (Jamison, PA/Central Bucks West) free throws gave Wilkes its first lead of the game, 31-29. The Colonels offense began to roll with just under five minutes left in the first half as Jourdon Wilson (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) added to the three-point barrage with a trey of his own upping the Wilkes lead to 12 points, 43-31. Wilkes settled for a nine point advantage at the break as BBC's Abe Valentine connected on a trey as the first half horn sounded. Shovlin was nearly unstoppable in the first frame finishing with 19 of the Colonels 45 points shooting an efficient 7-for-10 from the floor as Wilkes went 55.6 percent (15-27) as a team in the half. The second half proved to be much of the same as Wilkes continued to roll on offense. A baseline jumper from Brendan Sheldon (Milford, PA/Delaware Valley) and steal and transition score from Cameron Hinkel (Millerstown, PA/Greenwood) pushed the Wilkes advantage to 67-21 with 12:18 left in the contest. Junior Bernard Edmonds (Exeter, PA/Wyoming Area) found his groove over the final ten minutes of the game scoring at will in the paint. Edmonds scored three straight hoops in the paint and Shovlin iced the game from behind the arc with his fourth trey to seal the non-conference win. Shovlin finished with a game-high 26 points while dishing out 11 assists and grabbing five rebounds. Edmonds followed with 18 points on 9-for-9 shooting, all coming from within the paint. Wilson chipped in 11 points, while Sheldon was solid on the glass posting a game-high 12 rebounds. Of Wilkes' 39 made field goals, 27 of the baskets came on assists as the Colonels moved the ball in rhythm on offense. Four BBC players reached double figures led by Valentine's 19 points. Dan Dodd posted 17 points and four rebounds, while Luke Peterson and Jordan Greve each added 15 tallies. Wilkes remains idle through the Thanksgiving holiday before hosting Lycoming College Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in a non-conference matchup at the Marts Center. Print Friendly Version
