Warren Ruda Wilkes conlcudes its 2012 slate hosting cross-town rival King's next Saturday in the Mayor's Cup game COLONEL FOOTBALL UPENDED AT DEL VAL 23-7 IN ROAD FINALE 11/3/2012 4:54:00 PM Box Score COLONEL FOOTBALL UPENDED AT DEL VAL 23-7 IN ROAD FINALE DOYLESTOWN, PA – Host Delaware Valley opened a 21-0 lead after one quarter of play on way to a 23-7 win on senior day over visiting Wilkes University Saturday afternoon in Middle Atlantic Conference play from James Work Memorial Stadium. With the loss Wilkes drops to 4-5 overall and 3-5 in MAC play. Delaware Valley improves to 7-2 overall and 7-1 in league games. Delaware Valley will play Widener next week in what may decide the MAC championship. Delaware Valley wasted little time grabbing the lead when cornerback John Robinson intercepted a Tyler Berntsen (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) pass and returned the ball 41 yards for a touchdown to give the Aggies a 7-0 lead. After a Wilkes three and out on offense, Delaware Valley was at it again marching 52 yards on four plays before quarterback Aaron Wilmer scampered in from ten yards out to push the lead to 14-0 with 9:03 left in the opening quarter. Another Wilkes three and out forced a Jordan Fredo (Williamsport, PA/Williamsport Area) punt as the Aggies regained possession for their third drive in seven minutes of play. After a promising drive that moved Delaware Valley into Wilkes territory at the Colonel 29 stalled, Brandon Snyder's 46-yard field goal attempt missed short returning the ball to the Wilkes offense. The top-rated defense in the MAC prevailed yet again on the Colonels next drive as quarterback Alex George (York, PA/West York)'s second down pass was intercepted by an Aggies safety to stop the drive at the DVC 48. Four plays later Wilmer ran on a designed quarterback run from 15 yards out to extend the lead to three touchdowns at 21-0 with :14 left before the second quarter. Wilkes had one more scoring opportunity before the half, but the Colonels fourth and one pass play from George to tight end Dan Curry fell incomplete stopping the drive at the DVC 30. After a safety added to the DVC lead in the third quarter, Wilkes finally got on the board in the fourth when freshman cornerback Marcus Leaf (Reading, PA/Berks Catholic) picked off Wilmer at the Wilkes 32 and returned the ball 68 yards for a Wilkes touchdown. Following a Fredo extra point, Wilkes trailed 23-7 with 12:51 remaining in the game. The Colonel offense put together a long drive late in the fourth trying to cut the lead to eight collecting a first and goal following a 12-yard completion from Berntsen to Tyler Schmitt (Gap, PA/Pequea Valley). After a three-yard completion on first and goal, two incomplete passes and a three yard rush ended the hopes of a Colonel comeback giving the ball back to DVC on downs. Berntsen finished 4-for-13 for 43 yards and George went 5-for-15 for 35 yards in split roles under center for Wilkes. It marked the second straight game the Wilkes passing attack was held under 100 yards. Patrick Ingulli (Hawley, PA/Wallenpaupack) rushed for a team-high 30 yards on nine carries, while Payton Bachman (Orefield, PA/Northwestern Lehigh) led the Colonel receivers with four catches for 41 yards. DVC did most of its damage on the ground as the top-rated rushing attack in the MAC finished with 241 total rushing yards and two scores. Kyle Schuberth led the Aggies with a game-high 114 yards on 18 carries while Wilmer finished with 15 carries for 90 yards and two touchdowns. Tate Moore-Jacobs (New Cumberland, PA/Cedar Cliff) led the Wilkes defense with 12 tackles including eight solo stops.
