Cortland claimed the top spot with 114 points, while host Messiah (95 pts) and Mount Union (95 pts) are tied for second after day one of action. The Colonels had five wrestlers reach the quarterfinals and four claim semifinal spots through day one. At 125, third seeded Guesseppe Rea (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) continued his fine rookie season with an 11-2 win in his opening round match followed by a pin of Mt. Union's Dan Hoberney in 1:56 to reach the quarterfinals. He will meet second seeded Chris Donaldson of Ursinus for a semifinal spot on Saturday. At 133, top seed Myzar Mendoza (Westminster, MD/Winters Mill) earned three straight wins to reach the semifinals including two consecutive pins and a major decision. Mendoza pinned his first opponent in 3:55, then grabbed a 5:57 fall in the quarterfinals to setup his semifinal bout with fourth seeded Alec Diema of Cortland. Mark Misczenski (Easton, PA/Easton) posted a 10-4 decision at 141-pounds in his opening match before falling to top seed Brian Bistis in the second round. Misczenski stayed alive with a 4-1 decision in the consolation bracket setting up a match tomorrow for a chance to wrestle for third place. He will face Ben Mitchell of McDaniel Saturday. At 149, Sean Lombardi (Newton, NJ/Kittatiny) became the third Colonel to reach the quarterfinal round after a medical forfeit and 6-1 decision. Lombardi fell in the quarterfinals to top-seeded Bobby Diema of Cortland moving him to the consolation bracket where he earned a 10-2 win to continue wrestling tomorrow fopr a chance at third place. Sixth seeded John Lynch (Hellertown, PA/Saucon Valley) rolled through his first three matches with 5-2, 10-1, and 9-4 decisions to reach the semifinals Saturday. Lynch will face second seeded Mason Goretsas of McDaniel in the semifinal bout. At 157, Stephen Turner (Plains, PA/Coughlin) pinned Manny Markantone of Gettysburg before falling 6-4 in a hard fought decision against the third seed Chris Sarro of Cortland. Phil Racciato (Pen Argyl, PA/Pen Argyl) fell in his first match of the day after receiving an opening round bye. Turner and Racciato would face each other in the consolation bracket with Racciato grabbing a 5-3 decision to continue into Saturday's action looking for a third place finish. At 165, third seeded Nathan White (Ellicott City, MD/River Hill) went 3-0 to reach the semifinal round using two straight falls (1:52/1:14) and a 9-0 major decision over sixth seeded James Ondris of Cortland. White will face second seed Jon Conroy of Cortland tomorrow for a chance at a title. Nicholas Lynch scored an upset win over top seed Derrick Longo pinning Longo in 1:06. Lynch would fall in the quarterfinals and end his tournament with a 5-1 loss in the consolation bracket. Levi Veppert (Kempton, PA/Northwestern Lehigh) went 2-1 on day one at 184-pounds with 2-0 decision wins in his opening round match and final match of the day in the consolation bracket. He will wrestle Saturday looking for a third place finish. At 197-pounds, second seeded Dave Oberrender (Freeland, PA/Hazleton) cruised through the competition to the semifinals with a 6-1 and thrilling 11-10 decision in his first two matches.
