WILKES WRESTLING TAKES 4TH AT MESSIAH PETROFES; REA CROWN 125-POUND CHAMPION
 
GRANTHAM, PA – The No. 19 Wilkes University wrestling team finished fourth of eleven teams at the Messiah Petrofes Tournament as freshman Guesseppe Rea (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) was crowned the 125-pound champion Saturday afternoon at Messiah College.
 
Wilkes finished with 118.5 team points to secure fourth. Cortland earned the team title with 204.5 total team points. Eight Colonel wrestlers placed in the top seven in the 10 respective weight brackets.
 
Rea went 4-0 on the tournament capturing the crown with a 6-2 decision over Cortland's Paul Fields in the final. Rea moves to 11-2 on the season in his first year in the Navy and Gold.
 
At 133, top seed Myzar Mendoza (Westminster, MD/Winters Mill) cruised through to the semifinals where he posted a 4-2 decision over Cortland's Alec Dierna to reach the finals. Mendoza fell in the title match 9-4 to the second seed Ryan O'Boyle of McDaniel to settle for second place.
 
At 141-pounds, Mark Misczenski (Easton, PA/Easton) wrestled his way through the consolation bracket setting up a seventh place bout with the seventh seed Cody Keane of Gettysburg. Misczenski claimed a 4-0 decision win to capture seventh in the event, his first placing as a Colonel.
 
At 149, John Lynch (Hellertown, PA/Saucon Valley) and Sean Lombardi (Newton, NJ/Kittatiny) made their way through wrestlebacks as Lynch finished sixth after posting a 9-4 win to reach the semifinals. Lombardi just missed placing for Wilkes falling 4-0 in the seventh place bout to Tim Reynolds of Mt. Union.
 
At 157, Phil Racciato (Pen Argyl, PA/Pen Argyl) wrestled his way into fifth place using four straight wins. Racciato used a fall and tough 13-12 decision over fifth seeded Dylan Foley of Springfield before pinning third seed Chris Sarro of Cortland in the fifth place bout.
 
Nathan White (Ellicott City, MD/River Hill) settled for fourth after rolling through to the semifinals after day one. White scored a pin to reach the third place bout before falling to top seed Derrick Longo of Springfield 18-8.
 
At 185, Levi Veppert (Kempton, PA/Northwestern Lehigh) moved through the consolation bracket on day two with 2-0, 7-0, and 3-2 decision wins to reach the third place bout. Veppert would fall to third seed Dan Manganaro of Ursinus to settle for fourth place. 
 
Dave Oberrender (Freeland, PA/Hazleton) took sixth place for Wilkes at 197 after moving through to the semifinals on day one with two decision wins. Oberrender left his fifth place match due to an injury.
 
Wilkes returns to the mat Saturday when the Colonels travel to Middletown, CT for a tri-match with Rhode Island College and host Wesleyan College starting at 1:00 p.m.
