Steve Finkernagel Senior Paul Huch and the Colonels travel to Alvernia Wednesday in the first round of the ECAC South Region Tournament WILKES MEN’S BASKETBALL EARNS ECAC SOUTH REGION BID; TRAVELS TO ALVERNIA FOR FIRST ROUND WEDNESDAY 2/27/2012 4:46:00 PM WILKES MEN'S BASKETBALL EARNS ECAC SOUTH REGION BID; TRAVELS TO ALVERNIA FOR FIRST ROUND WEDNESDAY CENTERVILLE, MA – The Wilkes University men's basketball team will continue its 2011-12 postseason earning a bid in the Eastern Conference Athletic Conference (ECAC) South Region Championship Tournament as announced Monday afternoon by the ECAC office. The Colonels were selected as the fifth seed and will travel to fourth seeded and Commonwealth Conference member Alvernia University (17-8) Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. The Colonels enter the tourney with a 17-9 mark following a loss at Misericordia University in the Freedom Conference championship on Saturday. Alvernia stands 17-8 overall narrowly missing the Commonwealth Conference postseason tournament last week. Other first round games include top seeded Juniata College (18-9) hosting eighth seeded Penn-State Behrend (16-11), second seed La Roche (18-8) hosting Freedom member DeSales University (15-10), and third seed Catholic University (17-8) hosting six seed Gwynedd-Mercy College (17-9). All first round games will be played Wednesday at the top four seeds. The semifinals and final will be played Saturday and Sunday at the highest remaining seed serving as the host site.
