Junior Emily Saliba collected her first assist on the year in the 6-1 loss to SUNY Geneseo WILKES FIELD HOCKEY DROPS OPENER 8/31/2012 5:02:00 PM Box Score Wilkes Field Hockey Drops Opener Edwardsville, PA – The Wilkes field hockey team dropped its opening contest Friday afternoon to the SUNY Geneseo Knights 6-1 in the first round of the Colonel Classic. Wilkes went down three to zero after a trio of goals by Knight forwards. Then, with 13 minutes left to play in the first period, Kaitlyn Bevans (Beaver Meadows, PA/Hazleton) scored on an assist from Emily Saliba (Scotrun, PA/Pocono Mountain East). The Knights led in shots in the first period 14-4, while Wilkes had a shot advantage of 8-3 in the second. Geneseo had seven corners in the first period to the Colonels five. Wilkes had plenty of opportunities in the second period to score, but could not find the net. The Colonels had 16 corners in the second period to Geneseo's four. Katie Farley had a pair of goals for SUNY Geneseo. The Knights Caitlyn Dowell collected six saves in the contest while Alexis Reed (Greenport, NY/Greenport) had seven of her own. The Lady Colonels return to action tomorrow when they play the loser of Salisbury and Wittenberg at 2:30 p.m. in the consolation game. Print Friendly Version
