Steve Finkernagel Wilkes recording its first Freedom victory of 2012 with the 3-2 decision at Misericordia Wednesday night WILKES VOLLEYBALL OUTLASTS MISERICORDIA IN FIVE SETS, 3-2 9/12/2012 9:36:00 PM WILKES VOLLEYBALL OUTLASTS MISERICORDIA IN FIVE SETS, 3-2 DALLAS, PA – After losing the first set, visiting Wilkes University rallied to take sets two and three before sealing a 3-2 Freedom Conference win in the deciding fifth set over Misericordia University Wednesday night in the Anderson Center. Wilkes improves to 4-7 overall and 1-0 in conference play. Misericordia drops to 4-4 overall and 0-1 in league matches. The Cougars took the first set 25-21 before Wilkes captured the next two sets by scores of 25-19 and 25-17. Misericordia battled back to tie the match at 2-2 with a 25-16 win in set four, but the Lady Colonels answered with a 16-5 win in the fifth set to escape with the conference victory. Casey Bohan (Harding/Wyoming Area) led the way with a career-high 26 kills and three solo blocks all coming in the final set as Wilkes jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the deciding frame. Alisha Rupp (Shamokin, PA/Shamokin) added eight kills and three digs, while setter Megan Powers (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) contributed 36 assists and seven digs. Erin Nothstein (Mertztown/Brandywine Heights) and Courtney Kania (Mountain Top, PA/Crestwood) led theLady Colonels backline combining for 29 digs. Wilkes returns to the Marts Center Saturday hosting Lycoming College and Baptist Bible College in a tri-match.
