Team USA goalkeeper Jillian Loyden will make an appearance at the Wilkes Women's Soccer match against Daemen Sunday, September 23rd WOMEN’S WORLD CUP TEAM MEMBER JILLIAN LOYDEN TO MAKE APPEARANCE AT WILKES-DAEMEN MATCH 9/14/2012 3:43:00 PM WOMEN'S WORLD CUP TEAM MEMBER JILLIAN LOYDEN TO MAKE APPEARANCE AT WILKES-DAEMEN MATCH WILKES-BARRE, PA – Olympian Jillian Loyden, a goalkeeper on the United States Gold Medal Women's Soccer team, will be making an appearance as an honorable guest at the Wilkes University women's soccer match against Daeman College Sunday, September 23. Loyden will be welcomed prior to the 12:00 p.m. kickoff and be available to fans for autographs and pictures following the completion of the contest. In 2010, Loyden worked her way into the goalkeeping picture for the World Cup by receiving a call-up in January. She earned her first career cap against China in a 2-1 victory on October 2, 2010. In 2011, Loyden earned her spot on her first world championship roster, making the Women's World Cup team as the third goalkeeper. She played in one match, earning her second career cap as a substitute against Canada in September. Loyden is no stranger to Pennsylvania having spent her college days at Villanova. Her senior season, she ranked fourth in save percentage (.891) and tenth in goals-against average (0.52). She finished her career with 7,542 minutes played (10th in Division I history), and was named First Team All-Big East and Big East Goalkeeper of the Year for the third consecutive year. As a junior, she allowed ten goals while making 93 saves and was named NSCAA First Team All-American and All-Big East. As a sophomore, she started all eighteen games, recorded 85 saves while allowing 20 goals. She posted four shutouts and went 6-1-3 in conference while playing every minute. As a freshman, she posted eight shutouts, allowed just 16 goals while making 102 saves. After college, Loyden was drafted in the sixth round (37th overall) to the St. Louis Athletica in the inaugural 2009 Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) league season of 2009. She debuted for St. Louis on May 23 in Chicago, posting six saves in a 2-0 win, earning WPS Player of the Week honors. She allowed just one goal in three starts for St. Louis going 2-1. In 2010, she was the starting goalkeeper for the Chicago Red Stars, playing in 23 matches, recording 72 saves and compiling a 1.17 goals against average. Jillian was named a WPS All-Star Game reserve. She finished her season playing with the Central Coast Mariners in Australia Women's League. In 2011, she signed with Magic Jack of the WPS, starting eight matches of the regular season going 4-3-1 with four shutouts, starting both playoff games for the club. Loyden attended Vineland High School where she was a First Team All-State selection. She was Named Player of the Year by The Press of Atlantic City and The Daily Journal. In the classroom she was a National Honor Society inductee and the winner of the Charles J. Niely award for academics. Print Friendly Version
