WILKES FIELD HOCKEY STUNNED IN 2OT LOSS AGAINST FDU
 
EDWARDSVILLE – Ashley Ream (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) scored two first half goals but it wasn't enough as the Lady Colonels dropped a double overtime Freedom Conference game to FDU-Florham 4-3 Friday night at Schmidt Stadium.
 
With the loss, Wilkes falls to 3-6 (0-2) while FDU-Florham improves to 5-5 and 2-0 in Freedom play.
 
Ashley Ream (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) scored her first goal in the 15th minute on a deflection by a Ashley Hahn (Bangor, PA/Bangor) shot crediting her with the assist. At the 29:37 mark, Ream scored her second goal of the night on a penalty stroke just seconds before the lights at Schmidt Stadium turned off. After a 15 minute delay, the Devils returned to play aggressively, scoring a goal in the 34th minute on a goal by Marybeth Weimer who was helped on a dish by Kelsey Kistle. FDU-Florham scored one goal prior to halftime.
 
In the second half, the Lady Colonels picked up another goal by Aliya Frankel (Ventnor, NJ/Holy Spirit) in the 37th minute of the game. FDU-Florham then responded by depositing two goals of their own to send it into overtime.
 
Freshmen goalie Alexis Reed (Greenport, NY/Greenport) had many aggressive stops in net to limit the Devil's offense and force a scoreless first overtime period. In the second overtime, with a man down due to a red card, the Devil's found the net on a goal by Leanna Grotyohann on an assist from Lanie Andrews.
 
Alex Reed had 11 saves In net for the Lady Colonels while Tess Loughran had one.
 
Wilkes returns to action Sunday when the Lady Colonels host Ramapo College in a non-conference tilt scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Schmidt Stadium.
