Steve Finkernagel Nic Wilkins hot two key jumpers in Wilkes 64-53 win at PSU Wilkes-Barre Sunday COLONEL CAGERS REBOUND WITH 64-53 VICTORY AT PSU-WB SUNDAY 1/6/2013 8:19:00 PM Box Score COLONEL CAGERS REBOUND WITH 64-53 VICTORY AT PSU-WB SUNDAY LEHMAN, PA – Chris Shovlin (Kingston, PA/G.A.R.) and Tyler Breznitsky (Freeland, PA/MMI Prep) combined for 36 points to lead Wilkes University to a 64-53 win over host Penn State Wilkes-Barre Sunday afternoon in non-conference play. Wilkes improves to 7-5 overall rebounding from a last-second loss against Scranton to conclude play at the Cross County Challenge on Wednesday. Shovlin, the sixth leading scorer in NCAA Division III averaging over 25.6 points per-game, did most of his damage on the free throw line finishing 9-for-10 from the stripe causing havoc off the dribble for PSU Wilkes-Barre defenders. Using Shovlin's penetration and Breznitsky's hot shooting from the field, Wilkes opened up a 28-20 lead in a defensive-minded first frame for both teams. The Colonels pushed the lead to double digits leading 61-51 with 4:12 left in the second half as Nic Wilkins (Dushore, PA/Sullivan County) buried a jumper off an assist from Shovlin. Another Wilkins jumper with just over a minute of play ended any hopes of a Mountain Lion comeback as Wilkes led 66-51. Shovlin went an efficient 6-for-10 from the floor and added six rebounds and a game-high 12 assists. Breznitsky followed with 13 tallies, while Brendan Sheldon (Milford, PA/Delaware Valley) added six points and eight rebounds. Wilkes returns to Freedom play Wednesday when the Colonels travel to Doylestown, Pa. for a matchup with Delaware Valley at 8:00 p.m. Print Friendly Version
