Wilkes took the match by scores of 17-25, 25-22, 9-25, 25-20, and 15-13. Wilkes improves to 11-9 overall following the win and sees its Freedom mark move to 4-1 on the year. Wilkes also moves into sole possession of second place with the four wins. DeSales drops to 14-11 overall and 3-2 in league games, one game behind the Lady Colonels. Wilkes rallied for the eight unanswered points in set two thanks to the play of Casey Bohan (Harding/Wyoming Area). Bohan led the rally with five of her team-high 15 kills in the match during the comeback set. After DeSales took a convincing 25-9 win in set three, Wilkes responded winning set four 25-20. The fifth and deciding set went back and forth with no team taking an advantage tied at 11-11. Wilkes then used a Paige Trusty (Durham, CT/Coginchaug) kill and two DeSales attacking errors to escape with the 15-13 clinching set win. Bohan's 15 kills and four total blocks led the way for Wilkes offensively. Kelsey Yacko (Shamokin, PA/Shamokin) followed with nine kills and two solo blocks, while Trusty added seven kills and three service aces. Megan Powers (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) led the passing game with 34 assists, while libero Marissa Mallory (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush) was steady on the Lady Colonel backline with 14 digs. Ally Paskas (Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford) contributed with a team-high 21 digs. Lauren Hess led DeSales with a match-high 25 kills, while Chrissy Banos added 12 kills and Emilie Baker 10 kills for the Bulldogs. Wilkes will take time away from Freedom Conference play over the weekend competing in the St. Joseph College Tournament on Friday and Saturday. The Lady Colonels face Farmingdale State Friday at 4:00 p.m. before a matchup with Manhattanville College at 8:00 p.m. The tournament wraps-up on Saturday when Wilkes plays host St. Joseph College at 12:00 p.m. and Ramapo College at 2:00 p.m. Print Friendly Version
