WILKES FIELD HOCKEY FALLS 2-1 TO DELAWARE VALLEY IN FREEDOM TILT

EDWARDSVILLE – Visiting Delaware Valley scored two goals, both in the first half, to hold on for a 2-1 Freedom Conference victory over Wilkes University Saturday afternoon at Schmidt Stadium.

Wilkes drops to 3-11 overall and 1-3 in league play while Delaware Valley improves to 10-5 on the year and 3-1 in conference games.

Delaware Valley opened the scoring when Taylor Prichett notched her 17th goal of the season knocking home a rebound at the 8:10 mark. The lead grew to 2-0 with 23:59 on the clock when Sarah Cvach scored on a shot from the top of the circle that made its way through the Wilkes defense. Delaware Valley kept the 2-0 advantage into the break.

The Lady Colonels responded early in the second half using an offensive surge to cut the lead in half, 2-1. Emily Saliba (Scotrun, PA/Pocono Mountain East) found the back of the net at the 41:19 mark after Aggie keeper Sandra Edwards denied her from two feet away. The rebound came back to Saliba where she put it past for Wilkes' first goal of the afternoon.

Wilkes had several scoring opportunities late in the second half, but all were denied by Edwards as DVC sealed the conferenced road win.

DVC outshot Wilkes 24-10 while the Aggies garnered 11 penalty corners to Wilkes' five attempts. Wilkes keeper Alexis Reed (Greenport, NY/Greenport) made 14 saves, while Edwards finished with five stops in net for DVC.

Wilkes returns to Freedom play Wednesday traveling to cross-town rival King's College. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. at McCarthy Stadium.
