EDWARDSVILLE, PA – The Wilkes University field hockey team clinched a playoff berth with a 4-1 win at home against Misericordia University on Tuesday evening. The Lady Colonels improve to 6-11 (4-3) while Misericordia falls to 6-12 (4-3).

The Cougars leading goal scorer Lindsay Hischak tied the game at 1-1 when she deflected an Allie Elmes shot past Wilkes goalkeeper Alexis Reed (Greenport, NY/Greenport) in the 12th minute. In the 26th minute Frankel scored her second goal of the match when she finished off a pass from Kerryn Redcay (Reading, PA/Wilson). Right before the first half intermission Ashley Hahn (Bangor, PA/Bangor) scored an unassisted goal to put the Lady Colonels up 3-1. Hahn finished the Lady Colonels scoring when she made it 4-1 in the 48th minute, off of a Taylor Ryan (Spotsylvania, VA/Courtland) feed.

Misericordia outshot Wilkes 12-10 for the match while penalty corners were even at eight a piece. Reed made four saves for the Lady Colonels in the cage as she picked up her sixth win of the season.

With the win the Lady Colonels have clinched the #2 seed in the upcoming Freedom Conference Playoffs. They will host #3 DeSales University on Wednesday at Schmidt Stadium. Time of the game will be announced later in the week.
