WILKES MEN'S BASKETBALL BOUNCES BACK AGAINST PSU HAZLETON WITH 79-63 VICTORY
 
HAZLETON, PA – Wilkes University sophomore Alec Wizar (Lebanon, PA/Annville Cleona) poured in a team-high 21 points on seven three-pointers as three Colonels reached double figures in a 79-63 victory over Penn State Hazleton Wednesday night in Thomas Caccese Gymnasium.
 
Wilkes improves to 3-1 overall following the win while PSU Hazleton drops to 1-4 on the year.
 
One night after falling in their home opener against Baptist Bible, Wilkes was unable to find momentum early as the Colonels trailed by two at the half, 37-35.
 
The defense turned up a notched in the second frame holding PSU Hazleton to just 26 points and 37.1 percent shooting from the field. Wizar scored 12 of his 21 points in the second half and Cameron Hinkel (Millerstown, PA/Greenwood) added 12 of his 18 tallies in the stanza to lead the Colonel rally.
 
Pat Furst (Jamison, PA/Central Bucks West) added 11 points and five rebounds, while Brendan Sheldon (Milford, PA/Delaware Valley) notched six points and a team-high ten rebounds. Wilkes shot 52.8 percent from the floor as a team canning 12-of-26 shots from behind the line led by Wizar's seven three-pointers. The seven made treys ranked ninth all-time in a single game in school history.
 
Ashkan Naderi led PSU Hazleton with a game-high 23 points and three assists.
 
Wilkes returns to the court Saturday traveling to Rosemont College for a non-conference matchup scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
