WILKES MEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS 68-65 AT ROSEMONT

ROSEMONT, PA – Two straight scores with less than a minute to play propelled host Rosemont College to a 68-65 win over Wilkes University Saturday afternoon in non-conference play.

With the loss Wilkes drops to 3-2 on the year while Rosemont improves to 2-2 overall on the season.

Wilkes took a 37-35 lead into the break thanks to a balanced scoring effort shooting 51.9 percent from the field as a team. Alec Wizar (Lebanon, PA/Annville Cleona) and Pat Furst (Jamison, PA/Central Bucks West) each scored nine points in the first stanza and Brendan Sheldon (Milford, PA/Delaware Valley) added eight points and seven boards to lead the Wilkes frontcourt.

Wilkes continued to lead late into the second half before Rosemont made a run to tie the game at 62 all when Dom Scafidi scored inside with 1:48 remaining. Sheldon answered with a three point play to give the Colonels the lead back at 65-64 on the following possession. Rosemont moved quickly on offense on its next possession scoring another bucket inside to cut the deficit to one. After a Wilkes turnover with forty seconds left, Scafidi collected a rebound off a block and added another layup to give the hosts the lead for good with nine seconds left to play.

Sheldon led Wilkes with 15 points and nine rebounds, both season-highs on a perfect 6-for-6 shooting from the field. Wizar added 13 points, while Jimmy Brackett contributed a season-high 14 points and three rebounds in 25 minutes.

Wilkes played without Furst and Nic Wilkins (Dushore, PA/Sullivan County) in the second half as both players left with injuries early in the second frame and were unable to return.

Marquis Goodman led Rosemont with 14 points while Scafidi finished with 11 points including the game-tying and go-ahead buckets.

Wilkes opens Freedom Conference play Wednesday, December 4 hosting Misericordia University at 8:00 p.m. at the Marts Center.
