Steve Finkernagel Kris Krawchuk won both of his matches Friday to advance to the semifinals of the 157-pound bracket at the NCAA Championships KRAWCHUK MOVES INTO SEMIFINALS AS WILKES WRESTLERS CONCLUDE DAY ONE OF NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS 3/15/2013 10:42:00 PM KRAWCHUK MOVES INTO SEMIFINALS AS WILKES WRESTLERS CONCLUDE DAY ONE OF NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS CEDAR RAPIDS, IA – Junior Kris Krawchuk (Slatington, PA/Northern Lehigh) was victorious in both of his matches moving into the semifinals of the 157-pound bracket as all four Wilkes University wrestlers concluded competition on day one of the NCAA Championships Friday night hosted by Cornell College. Fourth seeded Krawchuk (28-3) continued the winning trend for Wilkes at the NCAA Championships as he is guaranteed All-American status capturing both matches to move into semifinal play tomorrow. Krawchuk claimed a 13-4 major decision over Blake Fisher of Stevens in the first round who was a 3-1 winner over Dubuque's Ryan Warczynski to advance to the match against Krawchuk. He then scored a 4-1 decision over Ryan Arne of St. John's (MN) to move into the semifinal match against eighth seeded Cade Sarbacker of Wisconsin-Whitewater tomorrow morning. Krawchuk can finish no lower than eighth place in the tournament. Mark Hartenstine (Easton, PA/Easton), seeded third in the 149-pound bracket, began the day with a 4-2 overtime decision over Daniel Mirman in round one. Hartenstine would face sixth seeded Greg Sanders of Concordia only to fall in 5:58 due to an injury. He then fell in the consolations to Luke Lohr 13-1 and concludes the season with a 22-4 mark. At 197, Matthew Transue held a slim lead midway through his opening round match only to fall 13-10 against seventh seeded Darren Faber of Wheaton. Transue then dropped a 10-2 major decision to Nathan Schmitz to finish the season 25-11. The Colonels last qualifier, unseeded William Fletcher (Ottsville, PA/Palisades), was pinned in 2:49 by fifth seeded Anthony Edgren of Wisconsin-Whitewater in his opening match of the 285-pound bracket. He then dropped a 5-2 decision to Olivet's Jake Ceslick to conclude the season at 21-11 overall. Competition resumes tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. with semifinal and wrestlebacks. Print Friendly Version
