Members of the Wilkes football team welcomed its newest teammate Monday night at a dinner held in the ballroom WILKES FOOTBALL PARTNERS WITH TEAM IMPACT 5/8/2013 9:46:00 AM WILKES FOOTBALL PARTNERS WITH TEAM IMPACT WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University football team continued its rich tradition of community support this past Monday by beginning a partnership with Team IIMPACT, a New England based non-profit organization serving kids facing life-threatening diseases. Its core model is leveraging the power of teamwork by matching up these courageous kids with college athletic teams. The Colonels were matched with a 14-year-old boy named Jeffrey from Hughestown, Pa. Jeffrey was introduced as the newest member of the Colonel football program at a dinner held in the ballroom on the campus of Wilkes University. Joined with his family, Jeffrey got a chance to meet all of his new teammates and interact with several of the current Colonel football players and head coach Frank Sheptock at the event. Jeffrey was born with Cystic Fibrosis, one of the most common chronic and life-threatening lung diseases for children and adults. Having CF causes thick mucus to build-up in the lungs and pancreas which can lead to life-threatening lung infections and serious digestion problems. Since birth, Jeffrey has been on a CF regiment and schedule. Member of the Colonel football team will stay connected with Jeffrey throughout the summer and into preseason camp on way to another Wilkes football season in 2013. The Colonels open up the 2013 campaign at Schmidt Stadium on September 7th hosting Morrisville State University at 12:00 p.m. Print Friendly Version
