FRANKEL'S LATE GOAL PROPELS WILKES FIELD HOCKEY TO 3-2 WIN OVER WIDENER

CHESTER, PA – Junior Aliya Frankel (Ventnor, NJ/Holy Spirit) scored the game-winning goal with under two minutes left to play to break open a 2-2 tie as Wilkes University recorded its first win of the 2013 season beating Widener University 3-2 Friday night.

Wilkes moves to 1-4 overall following the win while Widener slips to 3-2 on the year.

Olivia Dworak (Dupont, PA/Wyoming Seminary) gave Wilkes a 1-0 lead 6:17 into the contest finding the back of the net off a hard one-timer assisted from Ashley Ream (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central). Ream upped the Wilkes lead to 2-0 when she deflected a Stephanie Hahn (Bangor, PA/Bangor) shot past the Pride goalie at the 11:03 mark.

Widener answered back tying the game at 2-2 scoring both unanswered goals in the first half.

The game went tied for the remainder of the second half before Frankel scored off a one-timer from the left side thanks to a pass from Ashley Hahn (Bangor, PA/Bangor) with just under two minutes left in the contest.

Alexis Reed (Greenport, NY/Greenport) made eight saves in net for Wilkes to post the victory. Maggie Karmeris finished with seven stops for Widener.

Wilkes returns to Schmidt Stadium Tuesday hosting Juniata College at 7:00 p.m.
