WILKES FIELD HOCKEY HOLDS ON FOR 2-1 WIN AGAINST JUNIATA
EDWARDSVILLE – Devon Kriebel (Pennsburg, PA/Upper Perkiomen) scored two goals, the latter the game-winner, to propel Wilkes University to a 2-1 victory over Juniata College Tuesday night at Schmidt Stadium.
Wilkes improves to 2-4 on the year while Juniata drops to 3-4 on the season.
Juniata opened the game with a flurry scoring in the first five minutes of action when Sara Bilheimer found the back of the net on a breakaway.
Wilkes tied the game at 1-1 when Kriebel scored her first of the contest off a corner played by Aliya Frankel (Ventnor, NJ/Holy Spirit). The game-winner came five minutes later at the 22:49 mark of the first half as Kriebel did most of the work darting past Juniata defenders eventually beating the Eagle keeper to the right side.
Juniata made once last comeback attempt late in the second half garnering a corner opportunity with no time left, but the Wilkes defense prevailed sealing the win with a clear.
Juniata held a slim 15-12 shot advantage while Wilkes garnered 14 penalty corners to Juniata's seven attempts. Wilkes keeper Alexis Reed (Greenport, NY/Greenport) recorded the win in net making 10 saves.
Wilkes next hosts Alvernia University Saturday at 6:00 p.m. at Schmidt Stadium.
