THREE UNANSWERED GOALS LIFT ALVERNIA OVER WILKES FIELD HOCKEY, 3-2
EDWARDSVILLE – After trailing 2-0 early in the second half, visiting Alvernia University scored three unanswered goals to post a 3-2 win over Wilkes University Sunday afternoon at Schmidt Stadium.
Wilkes slips to 2-5 overall following the defeat, while Alvernia improves to 5-2 on the year.
Ashley Ream (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) and Taylor Ryan (Spotsylvania, VA/Courtland) scored the two goals for Wilkes to give the Lady Colonels a 2-0 advantage with 41:03 on the clock. Ream's goal came off a corner attempt as she found the back of the net off an assist from Aliya Frankel (Ventnor, NJ/Holy Spirit). Ryan scored her first collegiate goal deflecting a shot from Ream eight minutes later.
The Crusaders then used a penalty stroke and two more goals to comeback from the two-goal deficit to record the win.
Alexis Reed (Greenport, NY/Greenport) made 12 saves in net for Wilkes while Alvernia keeper Rebecca Brosious finished with nine save to pick up the win.
Wilkes returns to action Wednesday traveling to Reading, Pa. for a contest against Albright College at 4:00 p.m.
