FIELD HOCKEY FALLS IN OVERTIME 2-1 AT ALBRIGHT
READING, PA – The Lady Colonels field hockey suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 overtime loss to Albright in a non-conference game played on Wednesday afternoon. With the victory Albright now stands at 3-5 on the season while Wilkes slips to 2-6.
The Lady Colonels fell behind 1-0 at the 25:43 minute mark when Albright's Chelsea Klein scored off an assist by Morgan Raneiri. Despite peppering the cage with 13 shots and attempting eight penalty corners the Lady Colonels were unable to score and went into the half down 1-0.
Just over five minutes into the second half Freshman Taylor Ryan (Spotsylvania, VA/Courtland) scored the equalizer for the Lady Colonels. Ashley Ream (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) and Ashley Hahn (Bangor, PA/Bangor) were both credited with assists on the goal. Wilkes continued to press the attack and fire off a total of 21 second half shots along with 11 corners, but they were unable to capitalize on their opportunities and the game went into overtime tied 1-1.
Wilkes was awarded a penalty corner :28 seconds into the overtime but were not able to push the ball into the cage. Two minutes later Klein scored her second goal of the game leading Albright to the win.
The Lady Colonels open Freedom Conference play on Saturday at Schmidt Stadium when they host Manhattanville College at 1:00 P.M.
