FIELD HOCKEY FALLS IN FREEDOM CONFERENCE OPENER

EDWARDSVILLE, PA – The Lady Colonels and Manhattanville College Valiants game was a tale of two halves. The first half was tied at three and the Valiants took over in the second half as they scored six goals en route to a 9-4 win over Wilkes. Manhattanville's record improved to 7-4 (1-0) while Wilkes falls to 2-7 (0-1).

Aliya Frankel (Ventnor, NJ/Holy Spirit) got the Lady Colonels on the board early 1:49 into the game when she scored off of an Ashley Hahn (Bangor, PA/Bangor) assist. Valiants Amanda DeChent scored her first goal of the day evening the score at one with a goal at the 5:45 mark in the first half off a pass from Kirsten Savage. In the 13th minute Taylor Ryan (Spotsylvania, VA/Courtland) put the Lady Colonels up 2-1 when she put a rebound into the back of the cage. A minute later Savage scored her first goal of the game to tie the score at two. Frankel scored her second goal of the game at the 16:12 mark when she scored off a corner feed from Kerryn Redcay (Reading, PA/Wilson). Valiants Breanna O'neill scored off a rebound at the 25:51 mark to tie the score at 3-3. Wilkes outshot Manhattanville 13-8 in the first half and out cornered the Valiants 6-4.

Manhattanville scored three goals in the first five minutes of the second half to give them a 6-3 lead. DeChent scored two of the goals and Savage scored the other goal. Taylor Ryan (Spotsylvania, VA/Courtland) scored her second goal of the game in the 45th minute to cut the lead to 6-4. DeChent scored two more goals in a six minute span increasing the Valiants lead to 8-4. DeChent an All-American and 2012 Freedom Conference Player of the Year scored five goals on the day. The final Valiants goal was scored in the 69th minute when Breanna O'Neill scored her second goal of the game.

Alexis Reed (Greenport, NY/Greenport) made 14 saves in the cage for the Lady Colonels. Wilkes returns to action next Friday when they travel to Freedom foe FDU-Florham in Madison, NJ for a 7 PM match.
