#5 SALISBURY TOPS WILKES FIELD HOCKEY, 9-1

SALISBURY, MD – Host Salisbury University stormed out to a 4-1 lead at the half then scored five unanswered goals to cruise to a 9-1 win over Wilkes University in the first game of the Salisbury Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

Wilkes drops to 0-3 overall while Salisbury, the fifth ranked team in the country, improves to 3-0.

Wilkes lone goal came at the 33:06 mark when Aliya Frankel (Ventnor, NJ/Holy Spirit) scored unassisted from the middle of the circle beating the Salisbury keeper to the right side.

The Sea Gulls controlled much of the play throughout holding a 50-5 shot advantage while garnering 20 penalty corners to Wilkes' two attempts.

Alexis Reed (Greenport, NY/Greenport) and Michelle Casl (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) split time in net for Wilkes as Reed finished with 14 saves while Casl made 10 stops in 28:53 of relief.

Wilkes plays Wesley College at 1:00 p.m. Sunday to conclude play at the Invitational.
