WILKES BASKETBALL TEAMS TRAVEL TO MANHATTANVILLE SATURDAY FOR FREEDOM DOUBLEHEADER
 
WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University men and women's basketball teams look to rebound from tough home conference losses Saturday when the squads travel to Purchase, N.Y. for a Freedom Conference doubleheader against Manhattanville College. The women's game tips-off at 1:00 p.m. with the men to follows at 3:00 p.m.

The Wilkes women (2-10 overall, 0-3 Freedom) are still looking for their first league win of the season after falling to Delaware Valley 59-52 Wednesday night at the Marts Center.
 
Freedom Conference leading scorer Elena Stambone (Jessup, PA/Valley View) tops the team averaging 20.3 points and 4.3 rebounds through 12 games. She became the eleventh player in school history to reach the 1,000-point plateau Wednesday sinking a three-pointer to accomplish the feat late in the second half.
 
Chelsea Brown (Garnet Valley, PA/Garnet Valley) follows with 12.6 points and a team-high 9.8 rebounds. Her 9.8 caroms per-game ranks second in the Freedom Conference. Center Ellen Rich (Hamden, CT/Hamden Hall) anchors the Wilkes frontcourt averaging 4.3 points, 6.4 rebounds and a team-high 38 blocks.
 
Wilkes is averaging 56.6 points per-game while allowing 62.3 points per-contest defensively. Last year, the two teams split the season series with each winning on its home floor.   
 
The Manhattanville women (4-9 overall, 0-3 Freedom) are also winless in league play following a 78-64 loss at No. 10 FDU-Florham on Wednesday.
 
Alyson Caiazzo leads the Valiants attack averaging 16.9 points and 14.3 rebounds. Bri Pabon is the other scorer in double figures averaging 10.9 points and 3.0 assists per-game through nine games played.
 
Manhattanville averages 64.7 points per-game offensively, while yielding 69.3 points per-contest on the defensive end of the floor.
 
The Colonel men (6-7 overall, 1-2 Freedom) look to bounce back from a hard-fought defensive-minded 62-58 loss against Delaware Valley on Wednesday night.
 
Pat Furst (Jamison, PA/Central Bucks West), who has not played in Wilkes' last three games due to an injury, leads the offense averaging 13.7 points and 6.1 rebounds per-game. Sharpshooting guard Alec Wizar (Lebanon, PA/Annville Cleona) follows with 13.3 points while connecting on 36 three-pointers through 13 games played.
 
Nick Wilkins and Steve Stravinski (Pittston, PA/Pittston) each average 9.6 points per-game while Wilkins tops the squad with 6.2 rebounds per-contest.
 
The Colonels are averaging 70.7 points per-game while allowing opponents to score 69.7 points per-contest. Last year the teams split the season series with each winning on the others home floor. Wilkes posted a 73-65 victory in Purchase after falling at home 69-65.
 
The Manhattanville men (5-9 overall, 1-2 Freedom) enter the home league contest after dropping a 72-69 decision at FDU-Florham on Wednesday.
 
Anthony Maestre tops the Valiant scorers with 17.0 points per-game including 31 three-pointers. Jack Bramswig follows with 15.9 points and 8.9 rebounds, while Colin Campbell rounds out the double figure scorers averaging 11.9 points and 2.7 assists per-game.
 
Manhattanville averages 73.0 points on offense while yielding 74.9 points on defense.
