Wilkes hosts FDU-Florham in a Freedom Conference doubleheader Saturday WILKES BASKETBALL TEAMS SET TO HOST DOUBLEHEADER WITH FDU-FLORHAM SATURDAY; 21ST ANNUAL HOF INDUCTION CEREMONY TO FOLLOW 1/24/2014 2:09:00 PM WILKES BASKETBALL TEAMS SET TO HOST DOUBLEHEADER WITH FDU-FLORHAM SATURDAY; 21ST ANNUAL HOF INDUCTION CEREMONY TO FOLLOW WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University men's and women's basketball teams will host FDU-Florham on Saturday afternoon in a Freedom Conference doubleheader on "Hall of Fame Day" from the Marts Center. The women's game tips-off at 12:00 p.m. with the men to follow at 2:00 p.m. The 21st class of Wilkes University Athletic Hall of Fame inductees includes Mike Schroat '90 (Wrestling), Jay Williams '98 (Men's Basketball), Whitney Bull Holloway '03 (Women's Basketball), Lisa Hartman Ninotti '02 (Softball), Bruce Davis '78 (Men's Lacrosse), Patricia Davis Gaboric '67 (Field Hockey), and the 1997-1998 Men's Basketball Team. Inductees and the 97-98 team will be introduced at halftime of the men's basketball game with a reception to follow immediately after the game in the Marts Center Hall of Fame Room. The men's team continues to battle in conference and have lost their last three conference games by a combined 16 points. Sophomore Alec Wizar (Lebanon, PA/Annville Cleona) is leading the team in scoring with 13.9 points per-game. Wizar has also drilled a team-high 42 three-pointers, good for first in the entire conference. Senior Pat Furst (Jamison, PA/Central Bucks West), who is battling through an injury, made his comeback against King's on Wednesday and looks to garner more minutes against FDU-Florham. Furst averages 12.7 points and a team-high 6.0 rebounds per-game. Steve Stravinski (Pittston, PA/Pittston) is solidifying himself as a scorer reaching double figures in five out of the last seven games for Wilkes. Stravinski is averaging 10.5 points and 5.1 rebounds per-game. Stravinski's 37 made three-pointers is good for second in the conference. Nic Wilkins (Dushore, PA/Sullivan County) is the Colonels fourth leading scorer with 8.8 points per-game. Wilkins is getting it done on the glass collecting 6.0 boards per-game. FDU-Florham (8-8 overall, 3-2 Freedom) is coming off a 71-59 win at Eastern on Thursday evening. John Flete leads the Devils with 16.9 points per-game. Flete is shooting 48 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from deep. Trevor Sykes drops 15.1 points and grabs 4.1 boards per-game. Will Green is the third leading scorer averaging 13.1 per-game while leading the Devils on the glass pulling down 8.9 rebounds per-game. The Devils average 71.8 points on offense and allow opponents to score 72.7 per-game. The Lady Colonels are looking to extend their season-long winning streak to three games and claim their second conference victory after they defeated cross-town rival King's 52-51 on Wednesday evening. Elena Stambone (Jessup, PA/Valley View) leads the Freedom Conference in scoring with 20.1 points per-game. Stambone averages 4.1 rebounds and is second on the team in steals with 23. Chelsea Brown (Garnet Valley, PA/Garnet Valley) continues to give teams trouble on both ends of the court averaging 11.7 points per-game while grabbing a team high 9.6 boards. Brown leads the Lady Colonels with 34 steals while swatting 28 shot attempts. Ginny Edwards (Warrington, PA/Central Bucks South) and Ellen Rich (Hamden, CT/Hamden Hall) continue to provide solid depth in the frontcourt. Edwards is second on the team with 7.4 rebounds per-game, while Rich is third with 6.9 boards per-game. Rich leads the team with 44 blocked shots. The FDU-Florham women (16-0 overall, 5-0 Freedom) come into the game ranked ninth in the country in Division III, outscoring their opponents by 27.8 points per-game. Reigning Freedom Conference Player of the Year Kyra Dayon leads the Devils averaging 14.9 points per-game. Dayon is second on the team in rebounding with 8.1 caroms per-game and has dished out a team high 55 assists. Dayon also leads the team in steals with 45. Rachel Groom is shooting a conference-best 62.7 percent from the field while averaging 12.3 points per-game. Groom is pulling down 6.8 boards per-game and has a team-leading 13 blocked shots. Shalette Brown is the third leading scorer averaging 11.2 points per-game. Brown leads the team in rebounds with 9.0 boards per-game.
