COLONELS UNABLE TO MOUNT SECOND HALF COMEBACK FALL 65-54 TO FDU-FLORHAM
WILKES-BARRE  – In a critical conference matchup with FDU-Florham the Colonels battled but came up short 65-54 in an up-tempo physical battle.

The loss drops Wilkes to their fourth straight defeat as they stand 6-10 overall and 1-5 in Freedom games.  FDU Devils improve to 9-8 overall and 4-2 in Freedom play.

Wilkes never led in the game as they immediately fell behind 8-0 just two minutes into the game.  FDU extended the lead to 14-4 before Wilkes went on a 9-0 run of their own to cut the Devils lead to 14-13.  The Colonels were unable to get the next stop and were outscored 14-8 over an eight minute stretch that saw the Devils increase their lead to 28-21 with 3:11 remaining in the first half.  FDU went into the locker room leading 30-23 as they shot 8-for-27 (29.63%) from the field, 4-for-11 (36.36%) from long distance and 10-12 (83.33%) from the foul line.  The Colonels shot 11-for-32 (34.38%) from the court, 1-for-6 from 3-point range, and 0-for-6 from the charity stripe.

Wilkes used a 7-2 run to open up the second half and trailed FDU 32-30 with 18:00 minutes to go in the game.  After the quick run by the Colonels, the Devils went on an 11-3 run and opened up a 10 point lead (43-33) with 14:04 to go in the game.  The Colonels trimmed the lead to seven but that was the closest they would get for the remainder of the half as FDU extended the lead to 19 points with 7:16 remaining and cruised the rest of the way to a 65-54 conference victory.

Wilkes shot 22-for-59 (37.3%) from the field, 3-for-18 (16.7%) from deep and 7-for-16 (43.8%) from the line.  Freshman Tyler Jackson (Cresskill, NJ/Cresskill) scored a career high 13 points while Jimmy Brackett posted 10 points and four boards.  FDU-Florham shot 20-for-59 (33.9%) from the field, 5-for-17 (29.4%) from long distance and 20-for-32 (62.5%) from the foul line.  John Flete led the Devils with 22 points and 7 boards, Trevor Sykes dropped in 15 points and 7 rebounds, and Will Green powered in 13 points and grabbed 13 caroms.

Wilkes returns to action on Wednesday when they host Eastern University in a Freedom Conference tilt slated for an 8:00 p.m. tip.
