WILKES BASKETBALL SQUADS SET FOR EASTERN ON WEDNESDAY
 
WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University men's and women's basketball teams will host Eastern University Wednesday night in a Freedom Conference double header. The women's game will start at 6:00 p.m., followed by the men's game at 8:00 p.m.

The Wilkes University men's team (6-10 overall, 1-5 Freedom) is currently on a four-game losing streak, having last won on January 8 against Penn State Wilkes-Barre 88-69.
 
With eight games remaining on the season, the men's team plays all Freedom Conference opponents and controls their own destiny.
 
Sophomore Alec Wizar (Lebanon, PA/Annville Cleona) (Lebanon, PA/Annville Cleona) leads the Colonels in scoring with 13.1 points per-game, and leads the team in three-pointers made (42-121). Senior Pat Furst (Jamison, PA/Central Bucks West) (Jamison, PA/Central Bucks West) averages 12.1 points per-game and 5.6 rebounds, both second-best on the team and both career highs. Furst is shooting 52% from the field (51-98).
 
Steve Stravinkski (Pittston, PA/Pittston) has averaged 13.5 points per-game in the last eight games, with a season total 10.1 points per-game. Stravinksi leads the Colonels with .349% from beyond the arc (38-109), and also grabs 5.1 rebounds per outing. Nic Wilkins (Dushore, PA/Sullivan County) (Dushore, PA/Sullivan County) enters the game with a team-high 91 rebounds, averaging 5.7 on the year. Wilkins also averages 8.8 points per-game.
Jimmy Brackett (Narvon, PA/Garden Spot) and Cameron Hinkel (Millerstown, PA/Greenwood) (Millerstown, PA/Greenwood) round out the men's scoring attack, both averaging 7.1 points per-game. Brackett has a team-high 25 blocks on the season, while Hinkel shoots a team-best 44-83 (.530%) from the field and grabs a team-high 17 steals on the year.
 
Eastern University men's team (7-10 overall, 1-5 Freedom) is also riding a four-gaming losing streak as they face the Colonels in the first of two matchups on the year. Malcom Garrison leads the Eagles in scoring with 12.8 points per-game, and also shoots a team-best 36% from long (40-111). Shaquan Turk has made himself the standout freshman for the Eagles, averaging 12.4 points per-game on 53.8% from the field. Turk has scored double-figured in nine out of the last 11 games.
 
The matchup is set to be close, as the Colonels average 68.7 points per-game, while the Eagles average 70.8.
 
The Lady Colonels (4-12 overall, 1-5 Freedom) look to grab their first win at home this season against Eastern University. Eastern enters the game second overall in the Freedom Conference (10-7 overall, 5-1 Freedom).
 
Elena Stambone (Jessup, PA/Valley View) (Jessup, PA/ Valley View) continues her junior campaign by leading the Freedom Conference in scoring with 20.2 points per-game. Stambone leads the Colonels with 115 field goals made, 115 three-pointers made, and 56 made free throws. Chelsea Brown (Garnet Valley, PA/Garnet Valley) (Garnet Valley, PA/ Garnet Valley) inches closer to averaging a double-double on the year with 11.8 points per-game and 9.6 rebounds, a team-high. She also leads the team with 37 steals on the year.
 
Ellen Rich (Hamden, CT/Hamden Hall) (Hamden, CT/ Hamden Hall) and Ginny Edwards (Warrington, PA/Central Bucks South) (Warrington, PA/Central Bucks South) average 4.7 and 4.1 points per-game respectively. Rich leads the team with 47 blocks on the year and has grabbed 108 rebounds so far, averaging 6.8 per-game. Edwards's averages 7.1 rebounds per-game splitting her strong presence equally on the boards with 46 rebounds on offense on the year.
 
Meghan Nowak for the Eagles leads her team on both sides of the ball, averaging 16.1 points per-game and 153 rebounds on the year (9 per-game). Nowak has scored 10+ points per-game in all but three games this season.
 
Kaitlyn Dougherty enters the game with 11.8 points per-game. Dougherty leads the team with 21 steals and 59 assists on the season. Gina DiDomencio averages 10 points per-game is shooting a team-best 48.4% from three-point range (31-64).
 
The Lady Colonels have won two out of their last four games.
