WILKES LOSES HARD FOUGHT 2-1 DECISION TO SCRANTON IN MEN'S SOCCER
 
EDWARDSVILLE, PA – Despite taking an early 1-0 lead the Colonels let the lead slip away as Scranton scored two goals: one right before the half and one at the beginning of the second half to help propel them too a 2-1 victory.

Wilkes falls to 2-10 on the season while Scranton improves to 7-2-1.
 
Eddie Metzger (Carlisle, PA/Carlisle) scored in the 13th minute when he got in behind the Royals defense and dribbled around goalkeeper Colin Homola firing his shot into the back of an empty net.  Before that the goal the Colonels had several scoring chances but were unable to capitalize on their opportunities.  With :52 left in the half the Royals made the Colonels pay on a defensive mistake as Henry Bonilla stole a backwards header attempt, slotting the shot into the far post to tie the score at 1-1.
 
The Colonels outshot the Royals 5-1 in the half with the Royals leading in corners 3-1.
 
The Royals used their late equalizer to spark them for the beginning of the second half as Michael Bergen settled a long ball pass from Tim DiBisceglie and was able to slot past a diving Patrick Loube (Boyertown, PA/Boyertown).  The Royals would make Bergen's goal stand as they held on for a 2-1 victory.
 
Scranton outshot Wilkes 8-5 for the game and 5-4 in the corners department.
 
Wilkes opens up Freedom Conference play when they host DeSales University on Saturday at Schmidt Stadium.  Kick off is slate for 5:00 p.m.
