ARENTZ'S LATE GOAL LIFTS WILKES MEN'S SOCCER OVER DESALES 1-0 IN FREEDOM OPENER
 
EDWARDSVILLE – Geoffrey Aretnz scored the game-winning goal with just under three minutes to play to lift host Wilkes University to a 1-0 shutout victory over DeSales University Saturday night at Schmidt Stadium.
 
Wilkes improves to 3-10 overall and 1-0 in league matches following the win. DeSales slips to 5-6-1 overall and 0-1 in conference matches.
 
The teams battled to a scoreless tie with each having ample scoring opportunities throughout.
 
Arentz broke open the tie when he headed a Ryan Joyce (Warminster, PA/Archbishop Wood) pass over the Bulldog keeper at the 87:07 mark of the second half. The Colonels then held on over the final two minutes to seal the conference win.
 
Wilkes outshot DeSales 13-10 in the game while the Bulldogs held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
 
Kyle Romm (Hampstead, MD/North Carroll) entered in relief of starter Patrick Loube (Boyertown, PA/Boyertown) making one save to record the shutout in net for Wilkes. Colin Sulpizio finished with six stops for DeSales.
 
Wilkes returns to Freedom play next Saturday traveling to Madison, NJ for a matchup with FDU-Florham at 3:00 p.m.
