FAZZI'S GOAL LIFTS WILKES WOMEN'S SOCCER OVER SCRANTON 1-0

EDWARDSVILLE – Grace Fazzi (Wilkes-Barre, PA/Coughlin) scored in the 61st minute to propel host Wilkes University to a 1-0 victory over local rival the University of Scranton Wednesday afternoon at Schmidt Stadium.

With the win Wilkes moves to 7-4 overall while Scranton falls to 5-4-1 overall on the year.

Scranton had plenty of opportunities early in the first half but fine goal keeping from Wilkes Lisa Semetti (Limerick, PA/Spring-Ford) kept the game scoreless through the first 45 minutes of play.

Midway through the second frame, Micaela Oliverio (Carlisle, PA/Trinity) played a ball on the attack to the back post finding Fazzi's foot as the junior ripped it to the back of the net to give Wilkes a 1-0 lead it would never relinquish.

Scranton held a 12-7 shot advantage, while Scranton garnered five corner kicks to Wilkes three attempts.

Semetti finished with three huge saves while Royals keeper Krissy Welsh made three stops in net for Scranton.

Wilkes begins Freedom Conference play Saturday hosting DeSales University at 7:30 p.m. at Schmidt Stadium.
