WILKES WOMEN’S SOCCER DOOMED BY LATE GOAL FALL IN OVERTIME 2-1 TO DELAWARE VALLEY

WILKES WOMEN'S SOCCER DOOMED BY LATE GOAL FALL IN OVERTIME 2-1 TO DELAWARE VALLEY

EDWARDSVILLE – The Lady Colonels held on to a 1-0 lead for 89:02 but the Aggies Elisha Taney spoiled the party as she tied the game when a Karla Keler header found her wide open on the back post sending the game into overtime where Delaware Valley escaped with a 2-1 victory.

The loss sends Wilkes to 8-6 and 1-2 in the Freedom while Delaware Valley improves to 4-8-2 and 1-1-1 in the conference.

Micaela Oliverio (Carlisle, PA/Trinity) scored her team leading 6th goal of the season in the ninth minute of play.  Shelby Trumbo (Landingville, PA/Schuylkill Haven) played Oliverio a through ball on the left side, she took a few dribbles and shot low to the far right side to give the Lady Colonels a 1-0 advantage.  Lisa Semetti (Limerick, PA/Spring-Ford) made a big save for the Navy and Gold in the second minute when she denied Mary Taylor on a breakaway.  Wilkes registered 10 shots in the half and held a 4-1 lead in corner kicks.

Delaware Valley was on a mission in the second half and turned up the pressure offensively as they looked to equalize.  They scored the goal in the 90th minute and carried that momentum into overtime where they scored just :31 into the extra period.  Shayna Schaeffer ripped a shot high and to the left after Keler served in a nice corner kick.

Wilkes returns to the pitch Saturday with a rematch of last year's Freedom semifinal at cross-town rival King's College at 4:00 p.m.
