JOSEPH’S TOURNAMENT WILKES VOLLEYBALL SPLITS ON FINAL DAY OF ST. JOSEPH'S TOURNAMENT PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – The Wilkes University volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday afternoon on the second day of the St. Joseph's College (LI) Tournament. Wilkes dropped a 3-1 decision to Alfred State in the opening match before sweeping New Jersey City University 3-0 in the final match of the day. The Lady Colonels finished 1-3 at the two-day event. Wilkes moves to 11-16 overall following the tournament. Alfred State took the first match of the day over Wilkes by scores of 25-23, 31-33, 25-17 and 25-15. Danica Benson (Allentown, PA/Emmaus) led the Wilkes attack with seven kills and two block assists. Ellen Mook (Meadville, PA/Meadville) followed with six kills and two solo blocks. Erin Nothstein (Mertztown/Brandywine Heights) anchored the Lady Colonels backline with a team-high 21 digs, while setter Megan Powers (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) led the passing game with 30 assists on Wilkes' 33 total kills. Wilkes cruised to a 3-0 victory over New Jersey City by scores of 25-6, 25-22 and 25-19 in its second match of the day. Grace Boyle (Andreas, PA/Marion Catholic) contributed a career-best 11 kills and three service aces in the win. Ally Paskas (Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford) added seven kills and a season-high five service aces as Wilkes posted 18 service aces in the match. Nothstein led the backline with 19 digs while Powers notched 22 assists and Alexis Morgan (Walnutport, PA/Northampton) chipped in with nine assists. Wilkes concludes Freedom Conference play Wednesday hosting Manhattanville College at 7:00 p.m. at the Marts Center.Print Friendly Version
