WILKES FIELD HOCKEY STORMS BACK TO TAKE 3-2 WIN AT DVC IN FREEDOM FINALE

WILKES FIELD HOCKEY STORMS BACK TO TAKE 3-2 WIN AT DVC IN FREEDOM FINALE

DOYLESTOWN, PA – Aliya Frankel (Ventnor, NJ/Holy Spirit) scored two goals including the game-winner and added an assist as Wilkes University scored all three of its goals in the second half to take a 3-2 win over host Delaware Valley College Thursday night in both teams' Freedom Conference finale.

Wilkes concludes the regular season with a 9-8 overall mark and finish Freedom play with a 5-2 record. The Lady Colonels already have clinched the fourth seed in next week's postseason tournament.

Delaware Valley grabbed a 1-0 lead scoring the lone goal of the first half when Taylor Prichett one-timed a cross from Cecilia Lounsberry at the 31:08 mark.

Wilkes responded with all three of its goals in the second frame starting with Frankel's first of the game at 51:02 off an assist from Marissa Surdy (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood). Frankel took the feed from Surdy and went in on the breakaway finding the back of the net on a shot to the right side.

Just eighteen seconds later, the Aggies took back the lead 2-1 when Jessica Summer notched her fifth goal of the season on a shot from just inside the circle. Surdy answered for Wilkes when she netted a cross from Frankel at the 55:21 mark tying the game at 2-2.

With just under seven minutes remaining, Frankel played the hero deflecting in a shot from Surdy to give Wilkes the 3-2 road conference win.

The win also guarantees Wilkes a .500 record or better for the first time since 2009 when Wilkes went 15-4 also making an appearance in the Freedom Conference semifinals.

Alexis Reed (Greenport, NY/Greenport) made six saves in net for Wilkes to record the victory. Wilkes held a 14-9 shot advantage although being out cornered 12-2 in the contest.

Wilkes, the No. 4 seed, looks to defend its conference crown traveling to top seed FDU-Florham Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in the semifinals of the Freedom Conference Tournament. Wilkes and FDU-Florham played earlier this season with the Devils taking a 6-5 overtime in at Schmidt Stadium.
