Guesseppe Rea went 3-0 at the John Reese Duals for Wilkes WILKES WRESTLING GOES 2-1 AT JOHN REESE DUALS 11/8/2014 4:22:00 PM WILKES WRESTLING GOES 2-1 AT JOHN REESE DUALS WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University wrestling team went 2-1 at the John Reese Duals Saturday afternoon at the Marts Center. The Colonels fell 19-15 against York (Pa.) in their first match of the day before posting wins over Gloucester (27-11) and Johns Hopkins (38-6) to complete the days matches. Wilkes sees its overall dual record move to 3-1 following the three-match event. In the match against York, Guesseppe Rea (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) opened with a technical fall win at 125 to give Wilkes a 5-0 lead. Michael Fleck (Easton, PA/Wilson Area) followed with a 9-6 decision victory at 133 and Pankil Chander (Cedarhurst, NY/Lawrence) made it three straight wins with a major decision (17-8) at 141 as Wilkes led 12-0 after three bouts. After York claimed two decision wins at 149 and 157, Mason McIntyre (Bethlehem, PA/Easton) scored a 5-2 decision win at 165 to up the Wilkes lead to 15-6. Two more York decision wins at 174 and 184 followed by a major decision win at 197 pulled the Spartans ahead 16-15 with one bout remaining. Heavyweight Dave Oberrender (Freeland, PA/Hazleton) suffered a hard-fought 3-1 decision loss at 285 and York pulled out the 19-15 comeback win. The Colonels cruised to a 38-6 victory over Johns Hopkins in their second match of the afternoon. Wilkes used six extra point wins including one pin and two major decisions. Matthew Grossmann (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) recorded a fall at 1:04 at 133 and Chander and David Wilke (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) each posted major decision victories at 141 and 285 respectively. Wilkes then closed out the event with a 27-11 win over Gloucester taking seven of the ten bouts. Fleck (3:12) and Ryan Smith (Honesdale, PA/Honesdale) (1:21) recorded back-to-back extra point wins at 133 and 141 as Fleck earned a technical fall and Smith a pin. Andrew Tonnesen (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional), McIntyre, James McNally (Scranton, PA/Scranton) and Oberrender all wrestled to decision wins. Rea posted a major decision to round out the Colonel scoring at 125 earning his third win of the day in the process.
