Wilkes improves to 5-2 overall following the win while Juniata slips to 1-7 on the young season. Wilkes led from start to finish never looking back after a hot start leading 27-9 with 5:36 left in the first half. The Lady Colonels settled for a 37-18 advantage at the break. Stambone and Basile did a majority of their damage scoring in the second frame netting 12 and 11 points respectively as Wilkes outscored Juniata 42-40 over the final twenty minutes of play on way to the 21-point non-league victory. The story of the game for Wilkes came from the foul line as the Lady Colonels went 25-for-36 from the stripe compared to just 8-for-14 for Juniata. Stambone went 5-for-15 from the floor for 19 points. Basile finished with 19 points on 8-for-14 shooting on way to her career night. Haley Mesaros (Royersford, PA/Pope John Paul II) added 13 points and three rebounds, while Chelsea Brown (Garnet Valley, PA/Garnet Valley) finished with a double-double of 11 points and ten boards. Wilkes returns home Monday hosting local rival Keystone College at 6:00 p.m. at the Marts Center before breaking for the Christmas holiday.Print Friendly Version
