OVERTIME GOAL SINKS LADY COLONELS FIELD HOCKEY AT ALVERNIA
 
READING, PA – Alvernia scored three minutes into overtime as they defeated the Lady Colonels 3-2 on Saturday afternoon.

Wilkes falls to 1-5 on the year while Alvernia improved to 4-4.

Alvernia took the lead at the 11:22 minute mark when Lauren Jacobsen scored off an assist from Amanda Galanti.  The Crusaders held a 7-2 advantage in corners for the first half while Wilkes outshot them 10-9.

Aliya Frankel (Ventnor, NJ/Holy Spirit) tied the game for the Lady Colonels in the 56th minute when she scored off of a Marissa Surday assist.  Surdy scored her second goal of the year to put Wilkes up 2-1 in the 63rd minute.  One minute after the Lady Colonels took the lead, Alvernia's Natalie Messaros scored her first goal of the year with an assist going to Margaret Wentzel. 

In the overtime period Wentzel scored off of a breakaway to propel the Crusaders to victory.  Alvernia outshot Wilkes 21-17 for the game while also having a 12-6 advantage in corners.  Lauren Burrows (Lehighton, PA/Lehighton) made seven saves in the cage for the Lady Colonels.

The Lady Colonels return to action Tuesday evening when they host Albright College at Schmidt Stadium.  Game-time is slated for 7:00 p.m.
