Men's Soccer Defeats Delaware Valley for First MAC Freedom Win
DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Wilkes University men's soccer team scored the first four goals of the game in a 4-2 victory over Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom foe Delaware Valley University on Saturday night.
The Colonels improved to 4-8-0 overall and 1-1 in MAC Freedom play while the Aggies fell to 4-8-1 and 0-2. The win also mark the 300th in head coach
Phil Wingert's coaching career which started in 1982 with the Colonels.
Eddie Metzger (Carlisle, PA/Carlisle) got the Colonels on the board in the second minute when he headed in a cross from
Michael Hasbrouck (Vestal, NY/Vestal) for his team-leading sixth goal of the season.
Metzger returned the favor when he and
Abdullah Albannay (Kuwait City, Kuwait/Abdullah Jaber) assisted on Hasbrouck's second goal of the season in the 19
th minute.
Mitchell Woodward (Wind Gap, PA/Nazareth) expanded the lead to three in the 38
th minute when
Jarret Colvin (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) assisted on his first goal of the season. Albannay closed out the scoring for Wilkes in the 62
nd minute on his first goal of the season.
Delaware Valley scored in the 71
st and 72
nd minutes.
The Colonels held a 25-7 shot advantage, with 14 reaching the net compared to the Aggies four.
Tim Gallagher (Easton, PA/Notre Dame Green Pond) didn't face a shot before being replaced by
Anthony Stefanelli (Upper Montclair, NJ/Passaic Valley) in the 66
th minute.
Wilkes returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to MAC Freedom opponent Misericordia for a 7 p.m. matchup.
