Wilkes Field Hockey Suffers 2-1 Defeat at Eastern

ST. DAVIDS, PA – Host Eastern University jumped out to a 2-0 lead midway through the second half and held on despite a late Wilkes University rally to preserve a 2-1 MAC Freedom Conference victory Saturday afternoon at Auxilary Field.

Wilkes drops to 7-8 overall and 2-2 in league games following the loss. Eastern, ranked 19th in the latest NFCA poll, improves to 10-3 overall and remains perfect at 4-0 in conference games.

The game went scoreless through the first half and into the second frame before Macey Talhem scored for the Eagles at the 44:32 mark off a loose ball in the arc. Eight minutes later the Eastern lead grew to 2-0 when Alison Hoag scored at the post on a pass from Megan Bolton off a corner attempt.

Wilkes cut the lead in half when Jenna Skrinak (West Wyoming, PA/Wyoming Area) scored off a rebound with just under twelve minutes left in the contest. From there, the Eagles defense held onto the one-point advantage to preserve the conference home win.

Goalie Dallas Kendra (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) made six saves in net for Wilkes while Eagles keeper Nicole Berger finished with seven saves picking up the victory.

Wilkes returns to MAC Freedom play Wednesday hosting Delaware Valley in a crucial conference match at 4:00 p.m. at Schmidt Stadium.
