Wilkes Volleyball Goes 1-4 at Elmira Tournament
 
ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Wilkes University volleyball team finished 1-4 at the Elmira College Tournament on Friday and Saturday in non-conference action.
 
Wilkes moves to 12-17 overall on the season following the two-day event.
 
The Lady Colonels opened the tournament with a 3-0 victory over CCNY by scores of 25-16, 25-10 and 25-12. Nine different Wilkes players tallied at least one kill in the win led by Grace Boyle (Andreas, PA/Marian Catholic) and Tawnee Hopper (El Cajon, CA/Granite Hills) who each contributed six kills. Alexis Morgan (Walnutport, PA/Northampton) led the passing game with 16 assists, while libero Danica Benson (Allentown, PA/Emmaus) paced the backline with 12 digs.
 
Wilkes then fell 3-1 in its last match of the day against Hunter College by scores of 20-25, 20-25, 25-21 and 22-25. Madison Scarfaro (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) led the attack against Hunter with a team-high 10 kills. Hopper added eight kills while Megan Powers (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) finished with 27 assists.
 
On Saturday, Wilkes dropped its final two matches of the tournament to SUNY Geneseo (3-0) and Cortland State (3-2). In the match against Cortland, Wilkes dropped the first set 25-18 before taking the second set 25-19 to tie the match at 1-1. After Cortland took the third set 25-20, Wilkes again answered with a 25-22 win in set four to force a deciding fifth set. There, Cortland sealed the match with a 15-9 decision.
 
Three different Lady Colonels reached double figures in kills led by Ally Paskas (Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford)' 14 kills and 14 digs. Powers posted 46 assists while Benson added 20 digs and four service aces.
 
Wilkes returns to MAC Freedom play Tuesday hosting Eastern University at 7:00 p.m. at the Marts Center.
