Field Hockey Continues Playoff Push with Win over King's
WILKES-BARRE- The Wilkes University field hockey team continued its push to the playoffs with a 2-1 win at King's College on Saturday afternoon. The victory is a second consecutive over a team that the Lady Colonels were tied with in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) standings.
Wilkes improved to 9-8 overall and 4-2 in MAC Freedom play while the Lady Monarchs fell to 11-7 and 3-3.
The Lady Colonels opened the scoring in the 12
th minute when
Jenna Skrinak (West Wyoming, PA/Wyoming Area) took a pass from
Haley Gayoski (Forty Fort, PA/Wyoming Valley West) and knocked it in the right post.
Marissa Surdy (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) doubled the lead in the 50
th minute when she scored off a penalty stroke.
King's scored its lone goal in the 56
th minute when Nicole Scott found Brianna Dimaggio to cut Wilkes' lead in half.
Dallas Kendra (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) made seven saves in goal for the Lady Colonels.
Wilkes returns to action on Tuesday when it will host Misericordia in its MAC Freedom regular-season finale at 4 p.m. at Schmidt Stadium.
