Field Hockey Falls to Misericordia
EDWARDSVILLE- Two second half goals by Misericordia University were the difference as the Wilkes University field hockey team fell by a 2-1 final at Schmidt Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.
The Lady Colonels fell to 9-9 overall and 4-3 in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) play with the loss while the Cougars improved to 8-9 and 5-2.
Wilkes got on the board in the 34
th minute when
Keighlyn Oliver (Wilkes-Barre, PA/Coughlin) drove to the net and laced a shot that glanced off of the goalkeeper. When the goalkeeper dove to clear the ball,
Marissa Surdy (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) placed a shot just over and into the net for her 15
th goal of the season.
Misericordia came out strong in the second half, tying the game in the 38
th minute, and taking the lead in the 62
nd minute.
Dallas Kendra (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) made eight saves in goal for the Lady Colonels.
Wilkes returns to action on Thursday when it will host Moravian College for a 7 p.m. non-conference match at Schmidt Stadium. The game will also be senior night, where the three graduating Lady Colonels will be honored in a pre-game ceremony.
