Field Hockey Ends Regular Season with Win
EDWARDSVILLE- The Wilkes University field hockey team wrapped up its 2015 regular season with a 3-1 victory over Moravian College at Schmidt Stadium on Thursday evening.
The Lady Colonels improved to 10-9 with the win while the Greyhounds fell to 4-13 with the loss.
Jenna Skrinak (West Wyoming, PA/Wyoming Area) opened the scoring in the 21
st minute when
Marissa Surdy (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) took a shot that was blocked and when Skrinak won a fight for the ball, she laced a shot that got past the Moravian goalkeeper.
Surdy would get a goal of her own in the 38
th minute with an assist from Skrinak.
Taylor Ryan (Spotsylvania, VA/Courtland) finished the Wilkes scoring in the 54
th minute when
Savannah McCauley (York, PA/West York) lined up a shot from the top of the circle that was defelected by
Keighlyn Oliver (Wilkes-Barre, PA/Coughlin) and deflected again into the net by Ryan to make the score 3-0 Lady Colonels.
The Greyhounds broke up the shutout with 11 seconds remaining in the game.
Alexis Reed (Greenport, NY/Greenport) started in net for Wilkes and made one save.
Dallas Kendra (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) made 11 saves to earn her 10
th win of the season.
The Lady Colonels out shot Moravian 25-15 and hit their target 18 times compared to 13 for the Greyhounds.
Wilkes returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to FDU-Florham for the semifinals of the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) tournament with a 7 p.m. start time.
