Men's Basketball Falls in Shootout with Rowan at LVC Tournament
ANNVILLE, Pa.- Four Colonels scored in double figures, but the Wilkes University men's basketball team fell in the first round of the Lebanon Valley Tournament against Rowan University by a 100-89 final at Lebanon Valley College on Friday evening.
The Colonels fell to 1-1 with the loss while the Profs improved to 2-2.
Both teams were evenly matched through the first five minutes, with Wilkes holding the largest lead at two points.
With Rowan leading 36-35 and 5:13 remaining on the clock, the Profs went on a 15-9 run to end the half with a 51-44 lead.
Rowan began the second half on a 17-10 run to push its lead to 12 at 68-55 with 13:47 on the clock. The Profs attained their largest lead in the middle of that run at 13 when the score was 62-49 with 16:29 remaining.
Starting at 9:50, the Colonels went on a 13-0 run that culminated with a three-pointer by
Marcus Robinson (Swedesboro, N.J./Kingsway Regional) to tie the score at 76 with 6:52 left in the game. Rowan responded with a 5-0 run of its own to extend its lead to 81-76 6:11 on the clock.
Wilkes trimmed the lead to two twice more, but the Profs would not relinquish the lead the rest of the game and put it away with free throws, finishing the last 4:55 on a 17-6 run.
The Colonels were led in double figures by
Steve Stravinski (Pittston, PA/Pittston)'s team-high 19 points. He was followed by
Zachary Brunner (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg) and
Alec Wizar (Lebanon, PA/Annville Cleona), who each added 17 points, and
Robinson, who contributed 16 points.
Clay Basalyga (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights) added a game-high eight rebounds for Wilkes.
Rowan was led by Nick DePersia, who had a game-high 24 points.
The Colonels return to action tomorrow when they play in the consolation game against either Lebanon Valley or Penn State-Abington at 1 p.m.
