Men's Basketball Snaps Skid with Big Win over Cazenovia
PITTSFORD, N.Y.-
Alec Wizar (Lebanon, PA/Annville Cleona) scored a game-high 26 points on a perfect nine-of-nine shooting from the floor including eight-of-eight from behind the three-point line to lead the Wilkes University men's basketball team to a 91-67 final against Cazenovia College in the consolation game of the Woodcliff Hotel and Spa Tournament hosted by St. John Fisher, snapping a five game losing streak.
The Colonels improved to 4-7 with the win.
Wilkes started the game on a 7-0 run through the first three minutes on three-pointers by Wizar and
Marcus Robinson (Swedesboro, N.J./Kingsway Regional) and a free-throw by Robinson. With the Colonels leading 10-7 and 12:34 remaining in the half, Wilkes went on a 37-14 run to end the half and go into halftime with a 47-28 lead.
The Colonels reached their biggest lead of the game following a three-pointer by
Casey Evans (Cicero, N.Y./Bishop Grimes) to extend the lead to 29 points at 85-56 with 4:22 on the clock. The Wildcats never held the lead in the game.
Wilkes was led by Wizar's 26 points. Robinson added 20 points with
Steve Stravinski (Pittston, PA/Pittston) contributing 17 points.
The Colonels finished the game shooting 52 percent (34 of 66) from the field and 54 percent (19 of 35) from behind the three-point line. Wilkes also turned Cazenovia turnovers into 19 points.
The Colonels return to action on Sunday when they host Dickinson College for a 4 p.m. non-conference game at the Marts Center.
