Stravinski and Wizar lead Men’s Basketball over Dickinson

WILKES-BARRE- Steve Stravinski (Pittston, PA/Pittston) totaled a season-high 27 points and Alec Wizar (Lebanon, PA/Annville Cleona) added 24 to lead the Wilkes University men's basketball team to an 81-71 victory over Dickinson College at the Marts Center in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon.

The Colonels improved to 5-7 on the season with the victory.

Both teams exchanged baskets to start the game, with neither team securing more than a five point lead as Wilkes entered half time with a 36-31 advantage.

The Colonels started the second half on a 7-0 run to push their lead to 43-31 with 18:27 left in the game. After the Red Devils cut the lead to nine, Wilkes went on another 7-0 run to push its lead to 16 at 52-36 with 15:11 left on the clock.

The Colonels had their largest lead of the game following a Wizar three-pointer that pushed the lead to 19 at 64-45 with9:35 left in the contest. Dickinson scrambled to get back in the game, finishing on a 26-17 run, but Wilkes would not be denied as it hit 10 of 12 free throws in the final 2:10 to secure its fifth win of the season.

Stravinski and Wizar led the Colonels with 27 and 24 points, respectively, with Stravinski adding nine rebounds. Marcus Robinson (Swedesboro, N.J./Kingsway Regional) added 14 points, while Zachary Brunner (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg) posted a game and career-high 12 rebounds.

Ted Hinnenkamp scored 26 points off the bench to lead the Red Devils, with Brandon Angradi and Mike Hinckley adding 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Wilkes returns to action on Saturday when it will host Lebanon Valley College for a 3 p.m. non-conference game at the Marts Center.
