Wilkes slips to 9-11 overall and 4-7 in league playing following the loss, while DeSales improves to 13-9 overall and sits in third place in the league standings at 7-4. In a game where offense was at a minimum, neither team shot over 30.0 percent from the floor through the first half as Wilkes hit on just seven of its 37 field goal attempts in the opening frame. The DeSales lead grew to ten with 12:13 left in the first half before a 6-0 spurt from Wilkes capped by a Chelsea Smelas (Jim Thorpe, PA/Jim Thorpe) layup in transition cut the deficit to 13-9 with just under ten minutes left until the break. Wilkes took its first lead of the game with 4:45 on the clock when Elena Stambone (Jessup, PA/Valley View) canned a jumper from the right wing as the Lady Colonels led 18-17. The teams traded baskets down the stretch as the game went into the break tied at 21. Wilkes increased its small lead it obtained in the first half to three when Stambone sank a three-pointer in the first two minutes of the second half. From there, DeSales slowly chipped away before claiming a 40-33 lead with 7:27 remaining. Wilkes came to as close as four over the final five minutes of the game as Stambone scored from the foul line and a bucket in the paint, but the hosts made two of its final four free throws to seal the conference victory. Stambone led Wilkes with a game-high 17 points on 7-for-25 shooting. Smelas followed with seven points and seven rebounds, while Chelsea Brown (Garnet Valley, PA/Garnet Valley) added five points and six boards. DeSales didn't fare much better from the field as a squad finishing just 29.1 percent (16-55) from the floor. Morgan McCollian topped the Bulldogs with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
